Queen Victoria Seamen’s Rest – also affectionately known as the Queen Vic has been helping homeless people in East London for an incredible 176 years. They enable homeless people to escape the street, rebuild their lives and then support them to move on to a home of their own.
The charitable services QVSR deliver are both life-saving and life-changing. Their hostel has been based in the very same building since 1845 – and maintaining the large Victorian building to a modern standard is an undertaking somewhat akin to painting the Forth bridge!
The hostel was in urgent need of refurbishment, many of the rooms were small with very dated decor and the bathrooms were all shared. QVSR needed external funding to achieve this but didn’t have the experience to secure this within their team. They therefore sought a fundraising consultancy with a really strong track record of capital fundraising campaign success and decided to appoint Charity Fundraising Ltd.
To date we have secured grants of £239,800 for the Queen Vic, which has enabled them to make substantial progress with the building works. The support from grant makers towards the project has been fantastic, with lead gifts from The Clothworkers’ Foundation, Garfield Weston Foundation and the Methodist Insurance Fund.
Alex Campbell, CEO of QVSR had these kind words to say about working with us:
“Charity Fundraising Ltd are great. Honestly, we’ve really enjoyed working with them. They are complete experts in what they do, they have raised us lots of grants from new funders for us and secured significant return on our investment with them.”
