£400k to £2.9M annual income within two years
Northern Care Alliance (NCA) was formed through the merging of Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. When we started working with them they had flat income of around £200k annually through each of the two trust charities and wanted support to develop an effective strategy to substantially grow voluntary income.
NCA contracted us to develop an ambitious and comprehensive fundraising strategy, which included an extensive review of the internal and external environment through detailed consultation, workshops, research and analysis. The strategy considered complex factors such as: the merging of the trust charities ; strong local fundraising competition; ensuring the inclusion of community services alongside acute care; and, addressing the branding challenge of aligning with the multiple conurbations within the trusts remit. The initial report included financial modelling on three different options with low, medium and high growth targets along with investment requirements and staffing structure. The final strategy received strong praise from the Charitable Funds Committee and was adopted immediately.
NCA then contracted us to support the mobilisation phase of the strategy, which included:
- Developing all Job Descriptions and Person Specifications for the recommended team structure
- Developing recruitment adverts, shortlisting candidates, developing interview questions and sitting on the interview panels
- Identifying and specifying CRM requirements and shortlisting suppliers
- Developing a new charity website specification and supplier brief as well as developing content for the new website
- Guidance on transition of legal structure and governance
Following the mobilisation phase, the merging of the charities was completed and they were rebranded as NorthCare Charity.
Within just two years of adopting and mobilising our strategy, NorthCare Charity were able to grow income from the base of £400k to £2.9M, representing growth of over 700%.
We have continued to work with them, supporting the rollout of the strategy, helping to address challenges and identify further opportunities.
